South Africa and Canada will battle for a place in the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup on Sunday, with both nations already making history by reaching the knockout stage for the first time.
Hugo Broos’ South Africa produced an impressive recovery after starting the tournament with a 2-0 defeat to Mexico, responding with a 1-1 draw against Czech Republic before securing a crucial 1-0 victory over South Korea, finishing second in Group A with four points.

They now face co-hosts Canada in their first-ever competitive meeting, having previously defeated them 2-0 in a 2007 friendly.
Canada also reached the knockout rounds for the first time after collecting four points in Group B. Jesse Marsch’s side began with a 1-1 draw against Bosnia-Herzegovina and followed it with a dominant 6-0 win over Qatar, but a narrow 2-1 defeat to Switzerland cost them top spot.

Alphonso Davies has yet to feature due to a hamstring problem, but the Bayern Munich defender could make an appearance from the bench.
Jonathan David and Cyle Larin are expected to continue up front, while Tajon Buchanan should keep his place in attack.
