The Twiga Stars of Tanzania upset Banyana Banyana of South Africa with a hard‑fought 2–1 victory, picking up their first three points of the 2026 WAFCON.
What a game it was. Tanzania played excellent football, showed great determination, and got the job done in the closing stages.
Diana Msewa opened the scoring in the 37th minute, giving Tanzania a deserved lead.
Softfootball gathered that South Africa responded just before halftime, with Bambanani Mbane equalising in 45+2′, sending both teams into the break level.
In the second half, both sides pushed hard in search of a winner and created several chances. However, it was the Twiga Stars who had the final say as Hasnath Ubaida struck in the 87th minute to seal a famous victory for Tanzania.
A massive result for Tanzania and another reminder of how competitive the 2026 WAFCON has become.
