For the first time since the FIFA Women’s World Cup was inaugurated in 1991, Nigeria will not be part of the global showpiece, a heartbreaking and historic setback for the ten‑time African champions, whose proud record of appearing at every Women’s World Cup has now come to an end.

Softfootball gathered that the defeat to South Africa closed Nigeria’s final pathway to qualification, following their earlier quarter‑final exit at the 2026 WAFCON, which denied them automatic qualification.
