The Super Falcons of Nigeria held their first training session ahead of their FIFA Women’s World Cup playoff clash against Banyana Banyana of South Africa on Thursday. The ten‑time WAFCON champions have begun preparations for the crucial encounter as they aim to keep their World Cup qualification hopes alive.
This comes after they crashed out of the ongoing 2026 WAFCON, losing 1–0 to Cameroon on Sunday, 9 August 2026.
Softfootball understands the players have put their pain and disappointment behind them following the defeat to Cameroon a result that ended their hopes of winning an 11th WAFCON title and also denied them automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Despite the setback, the team remains focused and determined to bounce back. The atmosphere in camp was positive as the players took part in their first training session, with everyone fully aware of the importance of the upcoming fixture.
