Nigerian football icon Austin Okocha has applauded Ademola Lookman for winning the 2024 CAF Player of the Year award, insisting the Atalanta forward’s triumph reflects both his footballing ability and exemplary character.
Lookman beat Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra, and Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy to claim the continent’s top individual honour at the CAF Awards in Marrakech.

Softfootball reports Okocha believes the recognition goes beyond goals and performances, highlighting the importance of discipline, professionalism, and attitude in earning such a prestigious accolade.
Speaking on Soccer TV’s YouTube channel, the former Super Eagles captain said:
The CAF Award is not just about how well you play on the pitch. Your attitude on the pitch, your reactions to fellow players, and your responses to coaches are all tested before we even talk about tactical performances.
Okocha, himself a two-time CAF Player of the Year winner, also congratulated Lookman for his achievement.
I am personally proud of you and I believe this award will help the younger generation to strive hard and not be discouraged in the face of challenges. Your dedication and commitment to both national and club football earned you this achievement,
he added.
