Jay‑Jay Okocha has mentioned he signed for Bolton Wanderers without doing any research. In his appearance on the ObiOne Podcast, he highlighted that the sporting director told him they were 10 minutes from Old Trafford, which made him believe they were a big club.

I signed for Bolton without doing any research. The sporting director told me they were just 10 minutes from Old Trafford, so I thought they were a big club.
There was no social media at the time, so I didn’t know much about them. They only showed me the beautiful stadium.
After I signed, I saw the tiny training ground and the bathroom. It was a three-person shower, and you had to wait for your turn.
Softfootball gathered this was not the only critical comment Okocha made. The ex‑Super Eagles captain also selected Messi over Ronaldo during the same interview.
