One of the Chawinga sisters is the clear favourite for the CAF Women’s Player of the Year 2026, especially after their outstanding performance in Malawi’s 3–1 victory over Algeria on Wednesday, 12 August 2026, a result that sent the Scorchers to their first‑ever WAFCON final.

Inspired by the duo, Tabitha Chawinga scored a brilliant brace, while Temwa Chawinga added the other goal, once again proving why they are the most dangerous attacking pair on the continent.

Softfootball understands the award is between the sisters, regardless of whether Malawi go on to win WAFCON or not. There is currently no African female player performing at a higher level than these two especially Temwa Chawinga, who has already achieved so much at club level and is now helping her country make history on the continental stage.
