Softfootball understands that Jeremy Jacque has shared an emotional first message following reports that he has completed his big-money move from Rennes to Liverpool, with the highly rated French defender admitting it is a dream come true to join the Premier League giants.
The 20-year-old centre-back, who will officially link up with the Reds ahead of next season, spoke with pride and gratitude in his first interview, describing Liverpool as one of the greatest football institutions in the world while also paying heartfelt tribute to his boyhood club Rennes, where his journey began.

In his first public comments, as reported by Fabrizio Romano via his official X account, the youngster sounded emotional, almost overwhelmed.
He said:
Jeremy Jacquet: I am honoured to sign for Liverpool, one of the greatest football institutions in the world. It was also very important for me to properly conclude my time in red and black, at the club that developed me , my boyhood club, Rennes.
Liverpool and Chelsea both pushed hard to secure the young French defender’s signature, but Jacquet ultimately decided that Anfield was the right destination. The prospect of consistent playing time, the stature of the club, and the clear long-term vision under Arne Slot convinced him that Liverpool was the better fit for his future.

On the pitch, Jacquet has been one of Ligue 1’s most consistent defenders this season, making 18 league appearances and 31 overall since his senior debut in January 2024. He has barely missed a minute, just two games out through suspension.
A France U21 international with five caps and youth captaincy experience, he’s widely seen as one of Europe’s brightest defensive prospects. Liverpool clearly agrees, handing him a five-year contract with an option for a sixth.

With uncertainty still hanging over parts of the Reds’ backline, especially around Ibrahima Konaté’s situation, Jacquet feels like a smart, forward-thinking move. And, who knows, it might prove massive in a few years’ time.
