Nigeria Premier Football League chairman Gbenga Elegbeleye has praised the home-based players included in the Super Eagles squad during the Unity Cup.
Softfootball reports that Elegbeleye described the players as good ambassadors of the NPFL after they were given an opportunity to represent Nigeria at the international level.
The tournament provided several players from the domestic league with valuable exposure alongside more established Super Eagles stars.
Elegbeleye believes their involvement demonstrates the quality that remains within Nigerian football and called for greater recognition of players performing in the domestic league.
The NPFL chairman was particularly pleased with the manner in which the home-based players adapted to the demands of international football.
Their inclusion also provides encouragement for other players in the domestic league who hope to earn senior national team invitations in the future.
The experience gained from working with the Super Eagles could prove valuable to the players when they return to their respective NPFL clubs.
Elegbeleye believes the development of domestic talent should remain a priority as Nigeria seeks to build a stronger pool of players for the national team.
