Atalanta and UEFA have congratulated Ademola Lookman after the Nigerian forward was named the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year, Softfootball reports.
Lookman claimed the prestigious award during the CAF Awards ceremony in Marrakech, Morocco, beating competition from Achraf Hakimi, Serhou Guirassy, Simon Adingra and Ronwen Williams.
The Atalanta forward succeeds fellow Nigerian Victor Osimhen, who won the honour in 2023. His achievement makes him the sixth Nigerian footballer to receive the CAF Men’s Player of the Year award.
Following the announcement, Atalanta celebrated their star player’s success on social media, describing Lookman as the CAF Men’s Player of the Year. UEFA also joined in the celebrations, highlighting the Nigerian’s remarkable achievement on its Champions League platform.
Lookman has enjoyed a memorable period with Atalanta, playing a key role in the club’s success and further establishing himself as one of Africa’s finest footballers.
The Super Eagles forward now joins an elite list of Nigerian winners, including the late Rashidi Yekini, Emmanuel Amuneke, Nwankwo Kanu, Victor Ikpeba and Victor Osimhen.
