Liverpool finally agree €90m deal to sign Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt

Liverpool are on the verge of completing a big money move for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Reds turned their attention to Ekitike, 23, earlier this week after seeing an approach for Newcastle’s Alexander Isak rebuffed. And with the Magpies now out of the running for Ekitike, Liverpool have essentially been left with a clear run at one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting young players.

Softfootball understands that the Liverpool are reportedly prepared to pay over €90 million for the Eintracht Frankfurt forward, with the total package potentially rising to €95 million once add-ons are included.

Ekitike is expected to sign a six-year contract at Anfield, keeping him at the club until June 2031,  a clear signal of Liverpool’s long term belief in the 23-year-old’s potential.

Ekitike was determined to join the Reds and insisted on the move despite interest from other clubs. While Frankfurt would have liked to keep hold of him, especially after the departure of Omar Marmoush in January, Liverpool’s offer is too good to turn down.

Ekitike’s omission from Eintracht Frankfurt’s first preseason friendly has fuelled speculation he is being rested to avoid injury in anticipation of the transfer.

Barring any unforeseen twists, Ekitike would be Liverpool’s sixth signing of the summer, but the Reds could be in the market for another addition soon.

While news of Hugo Ekitike’s impending arrival at Anfield has makes headlines, not all Liverpool fans are thrilled about the deal. Many supporters have expressed concerns over the reported €90 million fee, with some feeling the club may be overpaying for the French striker. Here’s a look at some of the reactions from Liverpool fans on X:

As Liverpool edge closer to finalising the signing of Hugo Ekitike, they’re also dealing with potential outgoings most notably, Bayern growing interest in Luis Díaz, and while Liverpool have rejected the Bavarians’ first offer, they are set to return with an improved bid, with the player keen on a move.

Should Liverpool eventually opt to sell Diaz, a replacement will be expected, and Real Madrid’s Rodrygo has been heavily touted as a strong candidate.

Ekitike will become the third player to swap the Bundesliga for Anfield this summer after Wirtz and his former Bayer Leverkusen team-mate, Jeremie Frimpong joined Liverpool.
