Championship club West Bromwich Albion have congratulated Semi Ajayi after he helped Nigeria’s Super Eagles secure a 1-0 victory over Libya in Friday’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo.

Softfootball reported that Nigeria had to work hard for the win after being frustrated for most of the match by a determined Libyan side.

The Super Eagles eventually found the breakthrough in the 86th minute when substitute Fisayo Dele-Bashiru scored the only goal of the game.

Ajayi started the match on the bench but was introduced in stoppage time, replacing Ademola Lookman as Nigeria looked to protect their narrow lead.

The win was Nigeria’s second victory in three qualifying matches and helped the Super Eagles remain top of their group with seven points.

Reacting to the result, West Brom praised Ajayi’s involvement and celebrated Nigeria’s important victory at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

The club noted that the defender came on late in the match to help the Super Eagles see out the result and secure all three points.

Dele-Bashiru’s late goal proved decisive, lifting Nigeria further ahead in the group as they continue their push for qualification.

West Brom also congratulated Ajayi for his role in the victory, showing support for their player on international duty.

Ajayi and his Super Eagles teammates will now turn their attention to the reverse fixture against Libya.

The second leg will take place in Benghazi on Tuesday, October 15, as Nigeria look to complete a double over the Mediterranean Knights and move closer to securing a place at AFCON 2025.
