Marseille supporters are under investigation following alleged homophobic chants directed at Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembélé during Sunday’s Ligue 1 clash at the Vélodrome.
The LFP has opened a disciplinary case after the chants and insults aimed at Dembélé during Marseille’s 2-1 defeat to PSG. According to L’Équipe, the incidents were included in the match delegate’s report and will now be examined by the league’s disciplinary commission.
The match was not stopped despite the alleged chants. The development comes after France’s sports minister Marina Ferrari had reminded the LFP of the need to follow the protocol concerning discriminatory chants, including those of a homophobic nature.
Dembélé started the match for PSG and was involved in several attacking moves before being replaced late in the game. PSG eventually secured all three points through goals from Ferran Torres and Marquinhos, with Amine Gouiri scoring for Marseille.
Softfootball understands that the disciplinary case could now lead to further action against Marseille depending on the commission’s findings.
The incident comes as Dembélé continues to attract significant attention following his individual success. The PSG star has also named his personal top three for the Ballon d’Or, selecting teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia alongside Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappé.
Dembélé’s inclusion of Mbappé is particularly notable given the French forward’s history with PSG, while his selection of Kvaratskhelia reflects the impact the Georgian has made alongside him in Paris. Ultimately, these selections highlight a deliberate attempt to honor meaningful relationships built through elite competition at both club and international levels.
