William Troost-Ekong has thrown his support behind Ademola Lookman to win the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award, praising his compatriot’s remarkable form for club and country.
Lookman is among five nominees shortlisted for the prestigious continental honour, having enjoyed a standout campaign that included three goals and an assist across seven appearances for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Softfootball gathers that his exploits for Atalanta, including a historic hat-trick in the Europa League final, have only strengthened his case.Troost-Ekong was emphatic about his teammate’s chances. He said:
I would say he’s arguably our best player and arguably the best player in Africa right now.
On December 16, there will be the African Player of the Year ceremony, and I’m sure he’s going to win it.
He went further, highlighting just how far Lookman has come this season. He added:
This season he’s been something else and at AFCON he was amazing.
Everybody saw the hat-trick in the Europa League final, and there were a lot of rumours about big clubs which I know to be true.
