Softfootball understands that Romelu Lukaku has personally agreed to join Fenerbahçe after holding direct contact with the Turkish club’s president, with the proposed transfer now dependent on Fenerbahçe’s final decision and negotiations with Napoli over the transfer fee.

The 33-year-old Belgian striker is reportedly available for around €10 million as Napoli look to move him on following a difficult campaign affected by injuries.

Lukaku enjoyed a successful first season in Naples, helping Napoli win the Serie A title after returning to Italy. However, his involvement dropped significantly last season, with the powerful forward featuring in only seven matches because of persistent injuries.

However, Lukaku’s fitness and salary remain important factors in Fenerbahçe’s assessment. While the Belgian has given his approval for the move, the club must determine whether the financial commitment is justified given his recent injury record and limited appearances.

Napoli, meanwhile, are prepared to facilitate his departure and are understood to be seeking approximately €10 million for the veteran forward.
