Former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr believes Ademola Lookman has done more than enough to be crowned the 2024 CAF African Player of the Year, citing his transformation into a complete footballer.
Lookman has been in exceptional form for both club and country this season, scoring three goals and providing an assist in seven appearances for Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations, before adding a historic hat-trick in the Europa League final for Atalanta.
Softfootball notes that the winger has racked up 11 goals and five assists in 18 appearances across all competitions this season.
Speaking to Foot Africa, Rohr, who previously coached Lookman with the Super Eagles, reflected on the winger’s remarkable turnaround in recent years. He said:
He has made a lot of progress. His difficult first seasons in England and Germany are now a thing of the past. He has managed to get back up and shine.
Rohr added that Lookman’s evolution into a genuine all-round threat has been the key factor behind his rise. He continued:
I followed him a few years ago with the Super Eagles. He went from the shadows to the light.
Today, he is a complete player, as effective as an assister as he is as a scorer.
