Former Super Eagles forward Osaze Odemwingie has urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to hand Augustine Eguavoen the Super Eagles coaching job on a permanent basis.
Softfootball reports that Odemwingie believes Eguavoen has demonstrated enough commitment and competence to continue leading the three-time African champions following the team’s impressive performances in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Speaking in an interview with Brila FM, the former Lille star praised Eguavoen’s dedication to Nigerian football, recalling how the former defender played a key role in his early career at Bendel Insurance.
According to Odemwingie, Eguavoen has consistently shown professionalism, passion and loyalty whenever called upon to serve the national team, qualities he believes make him a valuable asset to Nigerian football.
He also highlighted Eguavoen’s involvement in coaching development through CAF courses, describing him as someone who is always eager to improve and contribute to the growth of the game.
Odemwingie noted that the Super Eagles’ return of seven points from three AFCON qualifying matches under Eguavoen is evidence that the coach is delivering positive results.
The former striker, however, added that the final decision should also depend on Eguavoen’s personal ambition, suggesting that if the coach is interested in taking the role permanently and presents a convincing long-term vision, the NFF should seriously consider appointing him.
He wished Eguavoen continued success and expressed confidence that the experienced tactician still has plenty to offer the national team.
