Nathan Tella is a major doubt for Bayer Leverkusen’s upcoming Bundesliga fixture against Holstein Kiel. The Nigerian winger sustained hip discomfort during the team’s recent stalemate with title rivals Bayern Munich, where he played for 85 minutes.

Softfootball reports that manager Xabi Alonso is closely monitoring his condition before making a final decision on his availability.

Alonso revealed that while the rest of the squad is expected to be fit, Tella’s status remains uncertain due to lingering physical issues.

The coach emphasized that it is not a severe injury but rather persistent discomfort that requires careful assessment during training sessions to determine if he can handle the match intensity.

The manager explained the situation by stating:

We’ll see with Nathan, there are some doubts with him, but all others are okay. It’s not an injury, but discomfort. It has something to do with the hip. We need to see how he feels today. It’s not gone away, but it’s also not yet been decided whether he can play.

This uncertainty leaves Leverkusen potentially without one of their key attacking threats for the trip to Kiel. The medical team will continue to evaluate Tella’s response to treatment, with a final call likely to be made just before kick-off to ensure his long-term fitness is not compromised.
