Nigeria international Nathan Tella has won Bayer Leverkusen’s Goal of the Month award for January after his impressive strike in the Bundesliga champions’ 3-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund.
The 25-year-old winger was recognised for a powerful finish that helped Leverkusen secure an important win in a thrilling league encounter.
Tella received the ball from Robert Andrich before unleashing a superb effort from the edge of the penalty area that found the back of the net.
The goal was particularly significant for the Nigerian, as it was his first league goal of the season and his first Goal of the Month award since joining the German club.
Tella has continued to play an important role in Xabi Alonso’s squad this season, making 17 Bundesliga appearances as Leverkusen look to maintain their strong performances domestically and in Europe.
The former Burnley player faced competition from several of his teammates for the individual award, beating Alejandro Grimaldo, Florian Wirtz and Patrik Schick to claim the honour.
The award provides another boost for Tella, who will now hope to build on his impressive goal and contribute more goals and assists as the season progresses.
His performances at club level will also be closely followed in Nigeria, with the winger looking to strengthen his position in the Super Eagles setup ahead of upcoming international assignments.
