Nathan Tella has reaffirmed Bayer Leverkusen’s determination to defend their Bundesliga title, insisting the champions are far from giving up despite the gap separating them from league leaders Bayern Munich.

The Nigerian winger spoke after Leverkusen’s impressive 4-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, a result that kept Xabi Alonso’s side firmly in the title race. Softfootball understands Tella played a key role in the win by opening the scoring with his second Bundesliga goal of the season.

Although Leverkusen remain eight points behind Bayern, the 25-year-old believes there is still plenty of football left to be played and that the defending champions must continue focusing on their own performances.

There are still eight points. Everything is possible,

Tella said, stressing that consistent victories will keep the pressure on Bayern in the closing months of the campaign.

The former Southampton winger added that Leverkusen’s mindset has not changed despite the standings, with the squad determined to fight until the very end.

After their league success, Alonso’s men will now turn their attention to a crucial UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash as they continue competing on multiple fronts this season.
