Softfootball can confirm Guillermo Ochoa is set to make history by featuring in his sixth FIFA World Cup 2026 with Mexico national football team, before bringing his illustrious career to an end.

This comes after FIFA confirmed that Armenia and Georgia will co-host the 2029 FIFA U-20 World Cup, while Serge Gnabry is set to miss the 2026 tournament due to a serious injury.

According to Fabrizio Romano via his official x handle, the veteran goalkeeper plans to retire from both club and international football immediately after the tournament.

Romano said:

Memo Ochoa will play his 6th World Cup representing Mexico as the legendary goalkeeper will make the squad. Ochoa will then retire from professional football right after, leaving club and national team.

Ochoa’s appearance will place him among an elite group of players to have competed in six World Cups, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Ochoa first featured at the 2006 World Cup in Germany as a third-choice goalkeeper and gradually rose to prominence, becoming a key figure for Mexico in the 2014, 2018, and 2022 editions with several standout performances.
