Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay has expressed his frustration over the position he was often asked to play during his time at Manchester United.

The Scotland international believes he was not always used in the role that allowed him to demonstrate his best qualities.

McTominay spent several years at Manchester United after progressing through the club’s academy before eventually moving to Napoli.

Since joining the Italian side, he has enjoyed a more influential role and has demonstrated his ability to contribute both defensively and offensively. His performances in Italy have highlighted his goalscoring ability and physical presence in midfield.

The midfielder’s comments reflect his belief that he could have offered more at United had he been used differently.

At Manchester United, McTominay played in several midfield roles and was sometimes deployed deeper or further forward depending on the tactical demands of the team. His move to Napoli has allowed him to develop further and become an important part of the team.

The Scottish midfielder has received praise for his energy, strength and ability to arrive in the box. His development at Napoli has therefore raised questions about whether Manchester United could have extracted more from him during his time at Old Trafford.

McTominay will now be focused on continuing his progress in Italy and maintaining the impressive form that has made him an important player for Napoli.
