Manchester United have completed the signing of 16-year-old winger Isaac Konde from Premier League rivals Liverpool, with the highly-rated academy prospect now set to continue his development at Old Trafford.
The move had been reported earlier this month, with Manchester United closing in on a deal for Konde as part of their continued recruitment of young talents. The 16-year-old has now signed his agreement with United, according to reports from The Athletic’s Andy Mitten.
Konde joined Liverpool at Under-9 level in 2019 and progressed through the club’s academy ranks before featuring for the Under-18 side. He is capable of playing on either wing and can also operate through the middle, with his pace and close control among the qualities that have attracted United.
The teenager will initially join Darren Fletcher’s Under-18 squad. Because players cannot sign professional contracts before turning 17, Konde has signed a one-year scholarship agreement, which will be followed by a five-year professional contract. Manchester United and Liverpool are also discussing compensation for the move.
Softfootball reports that Konde’s arrival is another example of United’s growing focus on recruiting promising young players from Premier League academies.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have also strengthened Michael Carrick’s coaching staff with the appointment of Connor King as assistant first-team goalkeeping coach. King joins from Burnley, where he held various coaching roles since 2018, and will work under lead goalkeeping coach Craig Mawson.
The double development highlights United’s continued work on both their academy pathway and first-team coaching structure.
