Manchester United have confirmed the appointment of Connor King as the club’s new assistant first-team goalkeeping coach as Michael Carrick continues to shape his coaching staff at Old Trafford.
King joins United from Burnley, where he held several coaching positions after beginning his coaching career at the Championship club. He also came through Burnley’s academy as a player and represented England up to Under-16 level. He will work under lead first-team goalkeeping coach Craig Mawson as part of Carrick’s coaching staff.
Softfootball reports that King’s arrival comes as United continue to strengthen their goalkeeping department, with Senne Lammens also becoming an increasingly important figure between the posts.
The Belgian goalkeeper produced an impressive display in United’s recent Premier League meeting with Fulham, helping his side survive a difficult afternoon at Craven Cottage. Lammens made several important interventions as Fulham threatened to secure their first league victory under Alvaro Arbeloa.
United eventually rescued a point through Matheus Cunha, who scored a late equaliser in the 89th minute after Lisandro Martinez’s own goal had put Fulham ahead.
Lammens was subsequently named Manchester United’s Player of the Match for his performance against Fulham, further highlighting his contribution during a game in which United struggled for long periods.
The 24-year-old joined United from Royal Antwerp in 2025 and has a contract at Old Trafford until June 2030. He was also named Premier League Signing of the Season after his first campaign with the club.
Softfootball understands that King’s appointment will add further experience to United’s goalkeeping setup as the club continues preparations for a demanding campaign.
