Ademola Lookman has been named among the final five nominees for the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award, while Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong didn’t make the cut.
CAF confirmed the shortlist on its official X account on Monday, capping off a season in which Lookman established himself as one of Africa’s standout attacking talents.
Softfootball understands Lookman will compete against Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra, Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, and South Africa’s Ronwen Williams for the top individual honor, a field that reflects just how competitive African representation has become across Europe’s top leagues.
Nigeria also has representation in goal, with Stanley Nwabali shortlisted for Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year alongside Williams, Egypt’s Mostafa Shobeir, Ivory Coast’s Yahia Fofana, and Cameroon’s Andre Onana.
Nigeria are additionally in contention for Men’s National Team of the Year, competing against South Africa, Cote d’Ivoire, DR Congo, and Sudan.
Other categories on the night include Men’s Young Player of the Year, Interclub Player of the Year, and Club of the Year, with the full award ceremony set for December 16 in Marrakech, Morocco.
