Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has expressed his excitement over Rodri’s return to training while stressing that the midfielder will only return when he is fully fit.

The Spain international has resumed light training after spending several months on the sidelines recovering from ACL surgery. Softfootball understands Guardiola remains determined not to rush one of his most influential players back into competitive action.

The fans are not the only ones excited.

We’re all happy to see him back, but we have to take things one step at a time.

The City boss explained that although Rodri is back working with the ball and has regained confidence, he is still some distance away from making his competitive return.

Guardiola believes the midfielder could still have a role to play before the end of the campaign if his recovery continues as planned, but insisted there will be no unnecessary risks.

When asked if Rodri could feature in a potential FA Cup final, Guardiola refused to look too far ahead.

We first have to deserve to be in the final,

he said, adding that the club will carefully monitor Rodri’s progress over the coming weeks.
