Softfootball understands that Manchester City have rejected Barcelona’s second proposal of around £55 million for Rodri, with negotiations between the two clubs continuing as the Catalan giants attempt to close the valuation gap.
Barcelona recently submitted a new verbal proposal worth approximately €60 million plus add-ons for the Spain international, but City remain firm on their financial demands and are understood to want around €80 million before considering his departure.
Rodri has already agreed personal terms with Barcelona and is understood to favour a return to Spain. The 30-year-old midfielder has been in talks with the Catalan club for weeks as Barcelona continue working to convince Manchester City to lower their valuation.
Despite having only one year remaining on his current contract, City are determined not to sell the Ballon d’Or winner below their preferred price. The English champions previously rejected a lower proposal and remain confident of their negotiating position.
Barcelona, meanwhile, remain optimistic that an agreement can eventually be reached. The club are continuing discussions with City and believe the two sides can find a compromise through a combination of a guaranteed fee and performance-related add-ons.
