Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted his side face a difficult challenge against Everton as they attempt to end their disappointing run of form in the Premier League.
The reigning champions have endured an uncharacteristically poor spell, winning just one of their last 12 matches in all competitions and slipping well behind league leaders Liverpool.
Softfootball understands Guardiola believes facing an in-form Everton side is far from ideal as City continue searching for consistency during a demanding festive schedule.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, the Spaniard said:
They are not the perfect opponent. It is about us getting back to our best. It will take time. We have to get results as quickly as possible. We are facing Everton and they are in a good moment. Their results and performances show it.
Guardiola also acknowledged the challenges posed by the busy Christmas fixture list but insisted his players remain focused on improving. He said:
We train today and tomorrow night. We will stay over here and play on Boxing Day
City will hope a positive result against Everton can reignite their campaign as they look to climb back into contention for the Premier League’s top positions.
