Real Madrid legend Luis Figo believes Pep Guardiola has the pedigree and technical know-how to lift Manchester City out of their current slump, despite the club’s alarming recent form.
City have won just once in their last 11 matches, a run that continued with Sunday’s derby defeat to Manchester United at the Etihad.
Softfootball gathers that Figo addressed the situation while speaking at a LaLiga event, expressing full confidence in the Spaniard’s ability to turn things around.
Assessing City’s recent struggles, Figo said:
It’s football. I don’t think Pep has to prove anything because he has won everywhere he has been, he has been the most successful team in recent years, so if he has a less positive streak it has to be overcome.
Turning to Rodri’s Ballon d’Or triumph, the Portuguese added:
I think so. At the end of the day, the parameters that define who wins, despite it always being a vote by journalists, you have to give the benevolence of his decision.
Despite City’s difficult run, Guardiola retains the backing of many within the football world, with Figo convinced the experienced manager has the quality to guide the Premier League champions back to winning ways.
