FC Porto have agreed a deal to sign experienced English defender Chris Smalling, with the centre-back set to join the Portuguese giants as a free agent.
The agreement is now in place, with Smalling undergoing his medical as he closes in on becoming a Porto player. The move will add considerable experience to Porto’s defensive options, with the former Manchester United and Roma defender bringing years of top-level football to the squad.
Smalling has spent much of his career competing at the highest level, including a lengthy spell at Manchester United before establishing himself in Serie A with Roma. His arrival at Porto will provide additional depth and experience at centre-back as the club continues its campaign.
Meanwhile, Porto head coach Francesco Farioli has also addressed speculation linking him with a possible move to Chelsea. Despite the reported interest, Farioli made his position clear, insisting that his focus remains firmly on Porto.
“I am staying at FC Porto, there has never been any doubt,” Farioli said, reaffirming his commitment to the Portuguese club.
The Italian coach has made a strong impression since taking charge and has been central to Porto’s plans as the club looks to compete domestically and in Europe.
Farioli’s statement comes at a time when Chelsea have been linked with potential changes in the dugout, but his comments suggest there is no uncertainty over his immediate future.
