Former Napoli striker Cristiano Lucarelli believes Antonio Conte is the ideal coach to bring out the best in Romelu Lukaku following the Belgian’s impressive start to life at Napoli.
Softfootball noted that Lukaku has quickly settled into Conte’s system since joining Napoli, with the striker delivering a series of impressive performances that have reinforced the strong bond between player and manager.
Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss, Lucarelli explained that Conte has a unique ability to inspire confidence in Lukaku, something no other coach has managed to achieve consistently.
“He is the ideal striker for Napoli, but I think (Antonio) Conte is the ideal coach for Lukaku. No one has managed to make this player feel important more than Conte.
“Lukaku has several qualities, a physical superiority, but it’s not like he has done as well as he does every time he works with Conte. The coach has entered his head, Lukaku feels the coach’s trust and the numbers say it all.
“There is a chemistry that goes beyond football, Conte feels safe with Lukaku in attack.”
Conte and Lukaku previously enjoyed successful spells together at Inter Milan, where they won the Serie A title, and the duo appear to have quickly rekindled that productive partnership at Napoli.
