Akwa United head coach Mohammed Baba Ganaru has expressed confidence that his team will secure their first win of the season when they face Kano Pillars at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Sunday.
Softfootball reported that the Promise Keepers are still searching for their first victory of the 2024-25 Nigeria Premier Football League campaign after a difficult start to the season.
Akwa United have suffered three defeats and recorded two draws in their opening five matches, leaving the club under pressure to turn things around quickly.
The Uyo-based side will be hoping to produce a strong performance against Kano Pillars, with a positive result expected to boost their confidence and improve their position on the league table.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the club’s website, Baba Ganaru said Sunday’s match could become the turning point for his team.
The experienced coach explained that Akwa United’s main focus is to turn their good build-up play into goals by making better use of their chances.
He added that the coaching crew have reviewed the team’s previous matches and identified the mistakes that have affected their results so far.
According to him, the players have worked on those lapses in training and are determined to avoid repeating the same errors against Kano Pillars.
Baba Ganaru also admitted that the team’s current position on the table is not good enough and that the fans are understandably unhappy with the results.
However, he insisted that the players are motivated to respond with extra effort and a winning mentality.
