Atalanta have reportedly rejected Liverpool’s attempt to sign Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman during the January transfer window, making it clear they have no intention of selling one of their most valuable players.
Softfootball understands Italian newspaper Tuttosport reported that Liverpool made an approach for the newly crowned CAF African Footballer of the Year, but Atalanta swiftly turned down the enquiry.
The Serie A club regard Lookman as a key figure following his outstanding performances over the past two seasons.
The Nigeria international has enjoyed a remarkable rise since arriving in Bergamo, helping Atalanta win their first-ever European trophy by scoring a memorable hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League final last season.
He has continued his impressive form this campaign, registering 11 goals and five assists in 19 appearances across all competitions.
Following his recent CAF Player of the Year triumph, Lookman’s value has risen significantly, making Atalanta even more determined to keep hold of the forward as they continue their pursuit of domestic and European success.
