Raphinha and Lamine Yamal might have scored the goals for Barcelona but fans recognized the brilliance of goalkeeper Joan Garcia and even named him the Most Valuable Player (MVP), Softfootball reports.

Barcelona beat Villarreal 2-0 in the Match-Day 18 of LaLiga to maintain their postion on top of the table. Brazilian forward, Raphinha opened scoring from the penalty spot after he was fouled as early as the 12th minute. Just before half-time, Renato Veiga saw a straight red card for a dangerous foul on Lamine Yamal and in the second half, Yamal scored to seal the win.

Good result for the last game of the year. it was important to finish with a victory. we stay on top with 4pts. serious performance overall. it’s gonna be a very good second part of the season. Joan Garcia MVP imo. high level. the top GK we needed. glad Stegen is back so he can watch him doing what the Barca GK should do.

Despite a red card for Veiga and a hostile crowd, the Blaugrana take all three points. 🧤🧱 Joan García with a masterclass in goal! #HalaBarca #VillarrealBarça #LaLiga.

So a 2-0 win on December 21st has you ready to fast-forward to 2026? Clearly Raphinha and Yamal’s goals are giving you a lot of confidence, or you just want to skip the rest of the winter transfer window.

@Barca4life733 was so impressed that he made his own highlights of the match.

Match Review – VIL (0) v BAR (2). 1 We were very poor in possession today especially in defense. 2 Joan Garcia is proving himself to be a very important player in the team. 3 Eric is what we needed in midfield. 4 Bernal with a composed confidence boosting performance.

Here is a video of Joan Garcia making saves during the match as posted via Barcelona’s official X handle. Watch below.

@rriiverismoo912 picked out a group of players for praise.

We wonnnn Barcelonaaaaaaa. I really liked how we played. The defense was the weak point, Lamine, Joan García, Raphinha on the podium. I liked Bernal’s entry. Hopefully Koundé’s thing is nothing. Next match: Espanyol.

Barcelona will return to action again in the New Year as the LaLiga has gone on winter break. The Catalan club will face Espanyol on January 3.
