Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has welcomed Hamza Abdelkarim’s new contract, describing the Egyptian forward as an important player for the club’s future.
Barcelona have extended Abdelkarim’s contract until June 2030 after the 18-year-old impressed during pre-season and continued his rapid rise since arriving from Al Ahly. The club has also moved to significantly increase his release clause, underlining their confidence in his potential.
Speaking about the youngster, Flick said:
“I’m happy. Hamza had an excellent preseason and competes with the rest of the players for his position.”
The German coach added: “He’s a valuable addition for the club’s future.” Flick also sees Abdelkarim as a different profile in Barcelona’s attack and believes the teenager can develop into an important option for the first team.
Softfootball reports that Abdelkarim’s impressive pre-season played a major role in Barcelona’s decision to secure his long-term future. The Egyptian striker finished pre-season as the club’s top scorer with four goals before making his senior-team debut against Rayo Vallecano.
