Softfootball understands this decision comes after the Super Falcons missed out on the Women’s World Cup for the first time since the tournament began in 1991, a historic and painful setback for the ten‑time African champions.

Nigeria were eliminated from the race to qualify for the 2027 World Cup after suffering a 2–1 defeat to South Africa, a result that ended their hopes of reaching the Inter‑Confederation Play‑Offs.

This followed their earlier disappointment at the 2026 WAFCON, where the Super Falcons were knocked out in the quarter‑finals by Cameroon. That defeat denied them automatic qualification, which would have been secured had they reached the semi‑finals.
