Softfootball can confirm Manchester City have reportedly agreed a blockbuster £116 million deal with Nottingham Forest for England midfielder Elliot Anderson, making him the most expensive British player in history.
The 23-year-old is expected to undergo a medical in the United States, where he is currently representing England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Anderson reportedly favoured a move to the Etihad Stadium despite interest from Manchester United, with City making him one of their priority targets after seeing two previous bids rejected.
Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis had insisted any offer would need to surpass the £125 million Liverpool reportedly paid Newcastle United for Alexander Isak last summer. City have now reached an agreement worth £116 million, completing one of the biggest transfers of the summer.

Anderson joined Nottingham Forest from Newcastle United for £35 million two years ago and quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s standout midfielders. During his time at the City Ground, he helped Forest secure a seventh-place league finish and reach the Europa League semi-finals, performances that also earned him a regular place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.
The midfielder has already featured in England’s opening two World Cup matches against Croatia and Ghana, further underlining his growing importance at both club and international level.

Manchester City’s busy transfer window is far from over. Reports continue to link the Premier League giants with Chelsea defender Malo Gusto, with incoming manager Enzo Maresca believed to be keen on reuniting with the French full-back after previously working with him at Stamford Bridge.
Should the Anderson transfer be completed, it would represent another major statement of intent from Manchester City as they strengthen their squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.
