Morgan Rogers has underlined Aston Villa’s underdog mentality ahead of their Europa League final clash with SC Freiburg, insisting the team thrives on being overlooked.

Villa head into the clash on the back of strong form, including an impressive 4–2 victory over Liverpool FC, with fans buoyed by the team’s momentum as they chase a first major trophy in three decades.

Speaking in a recent press conference shared via the club’s official YouTube channel, Softfootball gathered that the England forward questioned the lack of individual recognition for Villa players this season, expressing surprise that none were nominated for major Premier League awards. He suggested the club’s achievements often go unnoticed but admitted the squad prefers it that way.

Rogers explained that with external pressure focused on bigger clubs, Villa are able to quietly focus on performance and improvement. He also highlighted the strong internal standards within the squad, pointing to a demanding environment driven by both players and coaching staff.

We play for them,” the playmaker said of the Villa Faithful.

The crowds at home, the crowds away, are just as good, equally. It doesn’t go unnoticed; it doesn’t go unappreciated. We need to try and give them something that they can remember for all the hard yards and the hard work that they’ve put into travel, travelling all around the country and in Europe. Wherever we’re playing, they go in numbers and always stick behind us. That’s what we’re pushing to do.

Villa’s route to the final has seen them win 12 of 14 matches, with players across the squad stepping up across the league phase and knockouts. I think as a whole we’ve been really good in the competition, especially playing on Thursday nights, it can be difficult after a weekend game or with a big weekend game coming up,” Rogers reflected.

The 23-year-old has been instrumental in Villa’s campaign, contributing 13 goals and 11 assists, and is now eager to cap off the season with silverware as the team prepares for the final in Türkiye.
