Aston Villa and Atlético Madrid have reached an agreement over a €20 million deal for Italian left-back Matteo Ruggeri.
Ruggeri has also given his approval to the transfer, with negotiations now focused on finalising his contract terms. A few more steps remain before the move can be completed, but both clubs are now close to reaching the finish line.
The agreement represents a major step forward for Aston Villa as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season, with Ruggeri set to provide another option at left-back.
Meanwhile, Softfootball understands that Aston Villa remain interested in Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson, who has been on the club’s radar since May.
Villa manager Unai Emery is a strong admirer of the Senegal international, having previously worked with Jackson, and values his pace, movement and attacking qualities.
Villa’s interest in Jackson remains separate from the Ruggeri deal, with the club continuing to assess their options in attack ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
