Aston Villa have opened talks with Chelsea over a potential move for Nicolas Jackson, but negotiations are proving difficult after the Blues set an opening asking price that Villa consider too expensive.

Unai Emery is driving the pursuit of the Senegal international, having previously worked with Jackson at Villarreal and remaining a strong admirer of the striker’s qualities.

Jackson’s salary is also understood to be a significant obstacle, adding further complexity to negotiations between the two clubs.

Softfootball previously reported that Jackson and Alejandro Garnacho were among the players discussed during recent transfer talks between Aston Villa and Chelsea as both sides explored potential deals.

Those discussions have already resulted in an agreement for Garnacho, with Aston Villa reaching a deal on 22 July to sign the Argentine forward on an initial loan with a conditional obligation to buy.

Villa are now exploring whether they can also secure Jackson’s signature, although Chelsea’s valuation and the striker’s wage demands mean further negotiations will be required before any breakthrough can be reached.
