Arsenal legend Thierry Henry believes Zinedine Zidane is unlikely to become Manchester United’s next manager following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag.

United parted ways with Ten Hag on Monday after a disappointing start to the season that has left the club languishing in 14th place in the Premier League. Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to West Ham United proved to be the final blow, prompting the club’s hierarchy to make a managerial change.

With Zidane’s name once again being linked with one of Europe’s biggest coaching vacancies, Softfootball understands that Henry does not see his former France teammate taking the job.

Speaking on CBS Sports, Henry suggested Zidane is patiently waiting for the opportunity to manage the French national team rather than returning to club football.

“I’m not going to go there. I think he is waiting for the national team,” Henry said.

The former Barcelona and Arsenal striker dismissed the possibility of Zidane taking over at Old Trafford or even returning to Juventus.

So I’m not going to go there. I don’t think he will go there. I think he is waiting for one thing and one thing only, and that’s the national team.

Henry believes Zidane has already achieved everything he needed to at club level after leading Real Madrid to three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles.

You won three Champions Leagues with Real Madrid. Why are you going to bother with other clubs when you can have the national team? I wouldn’t,

he added.

Zidane has remained out of management since leaving Real Madrid in 2021 and continues to be heavily linked with the France job whenever Didier Deschamps eventually steps aside. Meanwhile, Manchester United continue their search for a new manager capable of reviving the club’s fortunes.
