Liverpool defender Jeremy Jacquet has praised France manager Zinedine Zidane for his open approach with young players, highlighting the trust and honesty he has brought to the national team.
Jacquet, who earned his first France call-up under Zidane, said he appreciates how close the legendary former Real Madrid manager remains to the players and the transparency he shows within the squad.
I like how Zinedine Zidane is close to us as players, he’s very transparent and honest,
Jacquet said.
The young defender also pointed to Zidane’s willingness to give opportunities to emerging talents, insisting the France boss is not afraid to select young players when the moment arrives.
He’s NOT scared when it’s time to play the young players, at all,
Jacquet added.
Softfootball reports that Jacquet’s comments come after Zidane handed him his senior France debut during the September Nations League fixtures. The 21-year-old was one of five newcomers selected in Zidane’s first France squad after impressing following his move from Rennes to Liverpool.
Jacquet’s rise has been particularly notable given the serious shoulder injury he suffered while playing for Rennes against Lens in February. The defender was forced off with a left shoulder problem, and Rennes subsequently confirmed that surgery had been scheduled following medical examinations.
He later completed his move to Liverpool in July after the Reds reached an agreement with Rennes earlier in the year. Liverpool confirmed that the centre-back had signed a long-term contract, with his 2025/26 season having been cut short by the shoulder injury.
Despite that setback, Jacquet has continued his rapid rise and is now part of Zidane’s plans for the French national team.
