Former West Ham United defender Tony Gale has criticised Chelsea centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo for his role in Joe Aribo’s goal during the Blues’ emphatic 5-1 Premier League victory over Southampton, softfootball reports.
Aribo briefly restored parity for the Saints after cancelling out Axel Disasi’s early opener, but Chelsea responded with four more goals to secure a convincing win and move into second place in the Premier League standings.
Speaking on the Premier League World Feed, Gale argued that Adarabioyo should have reacted quicker to prevent the Nigerian midfielder from scoring.
“This is the error here. As you said, Enzo Fernández gets a little bit lucky. The ball is whipped in and Aribo gets across his marker, Tosin,” Gale said.
“Tosin is on the back foot as well. There is the challenge that should have been made. It was a good ball in and an easy finish from Aribo.”
Despite conceding, Chelsea recovered strongly through goals from Christopher Nkunku, Noni Madueke, Cole Palmer, and Jadon Sancho to cruise to all three points.
