The trip to Russia comes after a mixed run of results for the Super Eagles in recent weeks.
Nigeria began their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar in Uyo on September 25, 2026. Following the match, Éric Chelle praised his players for their mentality and commitment after coming from behind to secure all three points.

However, the Super Eagles were unable to build on that result as they later suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in their second Group L qualifier.
Attention now turns to the upcoming friendly in Moscow, where the Super Eagles will look to continue building as a team when they face the Russian national side on October 6.
