Southampton manager Ivan Juric praised Paul Onuachu following the Nigerian striker’s performance against Crystal Palace.

The Saints were held to a draw at home, but Onuachu’s display provided one of the positives for the struggling Premier League side.

The Nigerian forward has faced competition for regular playing time since joining Southampton, but his physical qualities have continued to make him an important option in attack.

Onuachu offers Southampton something different with his height, strength and ability to compete for aerial balls. He can also help bring teammates into play by holding up possession in the final third.

Juric was pleased with the striker’s contribution against Palace and acknowledged the effort he put into the contest.

The praise could give Onuachu further confidence as he looks to secure a more consistent role in the Southampton attack.

The club had endured a difficult campaign and needed improved performances from its attacking players to produce better results.

For Onuachu, consistent performances could also strengthen his chances of remaining an important part of the squad.

The Nigerian has previously demonstrated his goalscoring ability during his career, particularly during his successful spell in Belgium.

He will now hope to build on his performance against Crystal Palace and continue earning the trust of his manager.
