Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold will miss Thursday’s Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg clash against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.
The England international was substituted during Liverpool’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Bournemouth on Saturday after suffering a leg strain.
According to The Evening Standard, Slot revealed that Alexander-Arnold would not be available for the crucial encounter but remained hopeful that the defender’s injury would not keep him out for long. He said:
He is going to miss tomorrow, and we have to see if he can play on Sunday, but he is not available tomorrow.
I think you saw he left the pitch with a bit of pain in his leg, so that is why he misses tomorrow. He is already on the pitch with the rehab coach, so let’s see how long it takes.
Alexander-Arnold’s absence comes as Liverpool prepare to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg against Tottenham.
There was some positive news on the injury front, with Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota and Darwin Núñez returning to the bench for the win over Bournemouth, while Joe Gomez has also resumed training with the squad.
Tottenham, managed by Ange Postecoglou, secured a narrow advantage in the first leg and will be looking to protect their lead at Anfield.
Liverpool remain in contention for four trophies this season. Slot’s side are also leading the Premier League, have reached the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League as group winners and remain in the FA Cup, where they are scheduled to face Plymouth Argyle in the fourth round.
