The injury happened during a fast sprint and he left the pitch in clear pain. Tests later confirmed a severe rupture of the proximal tendon in his right quadriceps. He will need surgery to repair the damage.

The injury occurred during a high intensity sprint. It leaves manager Álvaro Arbeloa with a big gap to fill in defence during the final stretch of the season.
This situation is even worse because the club has also confirmed that Kylian Mbappé suffered a semitendinosus muscle injury in his left leg after the recent draw with Real Betis. These two injuries mean Real Madrid will be without two key French players at a very important stage of the season.
There are also problems off the pitch. Reports say there is tension inside the squad. Dani Ceballos reportedly had a heated face to face argument with Arbeloa at the training ground. After this, he unfollowed the coach on social media. This has added more pressure to the team during a difficult period.
