Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is expected to miss Sunday’s Premier League showdown against Liverpool after falling ill, dealing another setback to Ruben Amorim ahead of the trip to Anfield.

Softfootball understands the England international has not trained this week and has been ruled out of the squad despite returning to the bench in United’s recent defeat to Newcastle.

Rashford had previously been left out of four consecutive matchday squads following concerns over his performances and attitude before making a return to the substitutes’ bench. However, illness has now ended any hopes of him featuring against the league leaders.

Confirming the situation, Amorim revealed the forward is unavailable but insisted his long-term future at the club remains unchanged, saying

At the moment he is ill. He is not training and this week he is out.

Amorim also disclosed that Amad Diallo is close to signing a new long-term contract, while the club will trigger the option to extend Harry Maguire’s deal until 2026. Softfootball reports United will hope the returning Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte can strengthen the squad as they attempt to halt Liverpool’s impressive run at Anfield.
