Nigeria international Paul Onuachu has expressed his disappointment after Southampton suffered a 3-2 defeat against Nottingham Forest despite scoring his first goal for the club.
The striker came off the bench during the Premier League encounter and was tasked with holding up the ball and battling for possession.
Softfootball reports that Onuachu responded by finding the net to score Southampton’s second goal, giving the struggling Saints hope of securing a positive result at the City Ground.
However, Forest held on to claim all three points, leaving Southampton at the bottom of the Premier League table.
Speaking after the game, Onuachu admitted that scoring his first goal was a positive moment but insisted that the defeat overshadowed his personal achievement. He said:
It’s a good feeling to score, but disappointing we lost.
Onuachu dedicated the goal to the club’s supporters, who have continued to back the team despite their difficult position in the league.
The forward praised the travelling fans for their consistent support and said their encouragement made his first Southampton goal even more special.
