Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has provided a positive update on Taiwo Awoniyi after the Nigerian striker suffered an injury during the club’s FA Cup victory over Exeter City.

Awoniyi scored Forest’s second goal before half-time, registering his second goal across all competitions for the club this season.

However, the Super Eagles forward was forced off late in the second half following a collision with Exeter goalkeeper Joe Whitworth.

Awoniyi reportedly suffered a concussion and a broken nose in the incident and was replaced by Chris Wood.

Despite the injury, Nuno praised the striker for his performance and was pleased to see him get on the scoresheet. Nuno said after the game:

It was a concussion and a broken nose.

He was in a lot of pain. But he has a smile on his face because he scored for us and did an amazing job. We are delighted for him (to get his goal).

Forest will now monitor Awoniyi’s condition as the striker begins his recovery from the injury.
